Aaron Corby

He’s new to the Morgan + English team but it feels like he’s been with us since the start, our Melbourne based business management expert has just stepped up as General Manager for the firm.

Aaron has worn many professional hats having a strong background in the thoroughbred industry as Industrial Relations Manager for Australian Trainers’ Association, Racing Manager for Danny Obrien Racing and Practice Manager for Flemington Equine. Aaron was also Executive Officer/ Company Secretary for Flemington Community bank, he’s using his skills to shake things up at Morgan + English (in a good way).

We asked Aaron a few questions to help us get to know him:

  1. Aaron, we know your strongly involved with the thoroughbred industry but can you ride? (photographic evidence would be preferable)

Growing up around racing stables and being taller than both of my parents at 12 years of age severely limited my riding opportunities. It is something I have come to enjoy later in life and have spent much more time doing purely for relaxation and enjoyment.

2. Name 3 people you most admire (and provide brief reasoning)

Brian Mayfield-Smith – I had the pleasure of working with him briefly and he is an incredibly gifted horseman and has a calmness with animals that I have rarely seen. He came from close to nothing to conquer Sydney’s training ranks.

Gai Waterhouse – Gai refused to take no for an answer and stood up to officialdom to achieve what she believed was right and went on to become one of the greatest trainers of the modern era. Having worked for her in her very early days, she has an incredible passion and energy that rubs off on all of those around her.

Roger Federer – A bit corny, however I don’t think there is another sportsman who has ever lived that has been such a dominant champion, yet displays such humility. In this day and age, he has never courted controversy, has respect and compassion and has improved the education outcomes for close to 1 million children through his charity.

  1. If you could time travel where would you go?

Into the future, as to where exactly, I would just spin the wheel. I would like to see where our decisions are leading us.

  1. Who will win the world’s richest turf race this year, The Everest?

I must say, I didn’t think the idea would take off when I saw the first cartoon ad, however I think I have been proven wrong. My heart is with In Her Time but head says Santa Ana Lane. I’m a bit of a value punter…..

  1. What’s the best thing about working for M+E?

Having only recently taken on my role, the one thing that stands out to me is how open minded and forward thinking the whole team is. Always striving to do more and get better just rubs off on everyone.
